The new site is alive!

New design, obviously not straying too far from the old one. Additions include Twitter and Flickr feeds, Gravatars and a few more features still to be added, including styling up the pagebar and adding social bookmarking links. But aside from that it’s here! www.nathanbeck.co.uk will be up at the start of August, unfortunately it’s currently down because I’ve not been looking after my hosting.. tut tut.

Countdown to the new site

7 days and counting. Next Monday, the 21st July, is launch day for the nathan beck and redswish websites. All next week I will be featuring a bulk of tutorials, topical articles and interviews to get the new design site on it’s feet. Now I’m working at Flame I’ll be looking to spend more spare time boosting redswish in an attempt to raise it’s profile dramatically in the blogging and web design world. So thanks to all the current regulars, and to everyone new for supporting the site. The first 6 months since I launched were a trial to see if I could keep up the blog and if it would work. As it is, it’s time to upgrade to Version 2. 21/07/08 – see you then!

A Quiet Month…

Hey all Sorry this month’s been so quiet on my front. Even with so much stuff happening at the moment – the Yahoo/Google/Microsoft parades, news of the new iPhone release on the 11th July, MySpace is set to be redesigned and Jakob Nielson is still moaning about usability issues on the web. I have however been busy starting my new job at Flame Digital in Manchester. It’s very similar to my old job – but now I have to get up 3 hours earlier, work 4 hours more each day, have to actually get dressed and can’t take a day off whenever I feel like it. That’s right – I have become employed! But it’s all good. Flame’s a great place to work and promises to offer lots of opportunities to learn and better myself, while meeting new people and getting the chance to put my name to some big projects. I will still be freelancing on the side and

Sorry for my bad links

For some reason, for the past few weeks I’ve been directing links from my blog articles by going ‘click here’ or something similar instead of properly describing the link. I’m really sorry! It’s not like me and it’s only when a good friend pointed out that I was throwing out these heinous links that I realised I’d been doing it. So, from now on it will be back to good standards and accessibility – don’t click here, instead visit the W3C website for more information on web standards and accessibility,  and here’s a good article on accessible link text.

Barcelona

Hey all, sorry the site has been slow over the past couple of weeks but I’ve been away in Barcelona on a little get away. Now of course I could have updated the blog from over there on the Spanish coast thanks to the power of the internet but I was generally too busy… errr…. sightseeing and err…. sampling the drinks over there! But fear not – this week I will be putting up a hefty 3-part tutorial on how to create your own WordPress theme. Of course when the choice is to either sit down and concentrate on crafting a carefully constructed tutorial or relax and play piano or my Xbox – there lies a predicament. But I owe a due to my readers – so expect the tuts (yes it is that big) up by the end of the week. I find time I might even write about something else… if you’re lucky!

The New redswish Site!

It’s taken long enough. After finding countless excuses not to do it, I’ve finally gotten round to getting redswish up and running. Now I just have to keep up with the blogging. Let’s see what excuses I can come up with now! Over the next few months I’ve got some exciting stuff  going on- the launch of at least 1 new web-based company (hush hush- you’ll find out soon) and a big push on web standards and learning more AJAX. This blog will hopefully just be the start to a web-writing career. I should improve my spelling first. So here’s to redswish – may it live a long (for the Internet) successful life!
