Bravo, easy to read article.

I guess color contrast is also related to the brightness of monitor screen, I always use colour contrast analyser for firefox to confirm.

Some collections of my online validators: validome, raven seo tools, atrc, basic website review, sakui web, uitest dot com.

And I agree that accessibility and usability need manual test, not just automatic online tools.

For as many years as I have been designing and optimizing websites, it always pleases me to find an article like yours. Very infomative, and it gave me a new perspective on a couple of things, i.e. text-sizing. Thanks for your efforts.

Great post Nathan, man it take some time to get through it. So much stuff that never crosses my mind when building sites and looking at the previous article, I never realised how important it was.

Bookmarked, I'll be back for more ;)

Nathan, nice article, but I just wanted to comment about the text-sizing portion.

How do you account for IE6 and IE7 users, for which their browser does not scale text specified in pixels?

I also enjoyed the part about color blind users. That I think happens more often than we'd like to admit.

Wow, you wrote a great article here! I'm impressed! Allthough I'v been building websites for some years now, I still found some very usefull tips in your article.

Especially the tip to set the body font-size to 10px so it can easily be changed to em's in the other elements.

Great article which all self-respecting webdevelopers should read. Thanks a lot!

Excellent post. I must admit, sometimes the "design" side of things crowds out the accessibility side, but then again, better design means taking accessibility into account. Thanks!

@Harry Roberts - tabindex isn't necessarily for rectifying flaws in page flow. The idea is to use it to create quicker and easier navigation to the most important parts of a page.

So instead of tabbing through an endless list of secondary menu items or advertising banner links, tabindex can be targeted towards the most likely to be visited areas first, then on the less important areas.

All very valid - I wrote a similar article a while back actually, I didn't include the tabindex stuff though, because if you've coded your page semantically/correctly the links etc will be in the right order anyway. tabindex is for rectifying flaws in page flow.
